Introducing the new senior editor for nutrition and sociology

Food Sec. Introducing the new senior editor for nutrition and sociology Richard Strange University College London, London, UK - From this issue onwards we welcome Andrew Jones, who will be the Senior Editor looking after papers dealing with nutrition and sociological topics. He replaces Anna Herforth, whom we are sorry had to resign for personal reasons. Andrew is a public health nutritionist and assistant professor of nutritional sciences at the University of Michigan, USA. His research is centered on understanding the influence of agriculture and food systems on the nutritional status of women and children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In particular, he examines: i) the mechanisms regarding, and the extent to which agricultural and landscape biodiversity affect diet quality and food security among smallholder farming households in LMICs; ii) the extent to which agricultural production and capture of animals impacts anemia among adolescent girls and women of reproductive age through both nutrition- and infection-related pathways; and iii) the role of food system changes associated with the “nutrition transition” in LMICs in potentiating risk of concurrent undernutrition and obesity, and the impacts of urbanicity and household food security in mediating these dynamics. Andrew has ongoing research in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Peru, and Bolivia.
