Of course the town knows that their mother left them after their father died and ran away with an orthodontist, and that Sean put aside his dream of becoming a doctor to take care of Finn until he graduated from High School. The town knows all about Priscilla (Petey) the beekeeper’s daughter, but they don’t really know who she is inside. The town thinks they know about Roza, a beautiful woman who mysteriously appeared, became beloved by all who met her, and then just as mysteriously disappeared. Finn said that she was kidnapped but he couldn’t describe the man’s face so no one believes him, not even Sean who should have cared most of all. Everyone in town has secrets that they don’t want others to know and it is up to Finn to figure out why the corn whispers and where the gap between what is and what isn’t is to be found. Because, he knows that Roza is in danger and only he can see it. Winner of the 2016 Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature, author Laura Ruby weaves a thriller and a mystery into a modern day fairy tale. Bone Gap is told from the viewpoints of various town residents as well as those caught in the gaps between reality and fantasy. Moving from one strong character to another while revealing hidden parts that only they know and feel, a unique plot is disclosed. Ruby explores issues of feminine beauty, love, empathy, and the way people are and how they are perceived by others.
