WELCOMING REMARKS
GEORGE E. REED, ESQUIRE
CONSULTANT, OFFICE OF THE GENERAL COUNSEL, UNITED STATES
CATHOLIC CONFERENCE
Naturally, I deeply appreciate the resolution. It means a great deal to
me. But that resolution could never have been written if not for the
continuing assistance I had from the field, from all of you. It is cooperation
and coordination which makes our office work and we have always
received that from the Diocesan Attorneys.
On March 17, a very appropriate day, the new General Counsel,
Wilfred R. Caron, assumed his duties. Mr. Caron is originally from New York
and was a clerk for the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of that state.
After his clerkship he was Special Assistant Attorney General for the
State of New York. Thereafter, he was associated with two law firms in
New York. He was Assistant General Counsel for the Ronson Corporation
and for the last 8 years, has been the Associate General Counsel for the
Securities Investor Protection Corporation, an organization which
protects investors in stock brokerage firms which have become defunct or
bankrupt. He has extensive litigation experience and has outstanding
administrative experience. I know Mr. Caron has a few words that he would
like to say to you at this time, so may I present Mr. Wilfred Caron. (...truncated)
