Zinc Oxide LLC Grows North America Holdings Dickson, Tennessee, USA: In acquiring Zochem, a subsidiary of American Zinc Recycling LLC, Zinc Oxide LLC has become the largest producer of zinc oxide in North America. This acquisition includes all of Zochem’s manufacturing operations and product lines. Saudi Aramco Enters Strategic Partnership with Petronas Johor, Malaysia: Saudi Aramco has entered into a strategic partnership with Petronas Chemicals Group Berhad for its petrochemicals projects within the Petronas Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) in the southern Malaysian state of Johor. The PIC is expected to drive rapid growth in the downsteam value chain with its 300,000 with a combined capacity of producing 7.7 mtpa of various grades of products, including differentiated and specialty chemicals products such as synthetic rubbers and high grade polymers. Toshiba Announces New Anode Material for Use in Lithium-Ion Batteries Tokyo, Japan: Toshiba has improved its long-lasting, fast charging lithium-ion battery by developing a titanium niobium oxide anode material that has double the storage capacity of traditional graphitebased anodes. The new anode is much less likely to experience lithium metal deposition during ultra-rapid recharging or recharging in cold conditions. Toshiba aims to commercialize this next generation SCiB™ in 2019 for use in applications such as automobiles, buses, railroad cars, elevators, and power plants. Statoil, Shell and Total Sign CO2 Storage Partnership Oslo, Norway: Three major names in European energy have partnered on a carbon capture storage project aimed at maturing the development of carbon storage on the Norwegian continental shelf. Shell, and Total have joined Statoil as equal partners for Phase I of the project which could reach a storage capacity of 1.5million tons of CO2 per year. The project also aims to expand storage capacity and to stimulate new commercial projects in Norway, Europe, and beyond.
