Stellar kinematic data for the central region of spiral galaxies. II.

We present a second dataset of absorption spectroscopy on the inner region of spiral galaxies. We have determined the central velocity dispersion for 42 Sa-Sc objects and, for 32 of them, stellar rotation curves and velocity-dispersion profiles. Some of these profiles are limited to the bulge, some others do reach a region dominated by the luminosity of the disk. These data are...

Autoguider locked on a fiber input for precision stellar radial velocities

Measurement of stellar radial velocities (RV) is one acknowledged approach for planetary-search and asteroseismology programs. We study the incomplete scrambling action of a fiber feeding a spectrograph, which leaves RV errors at a level of few m/s. Observations realised with the ELODIE fiber-fed crossed-dispersion spectrograph at the 193-cm telescope of Observatoire de Haute...

UBVRI photometric monitoring of 7 rapidly rotating late-type dwarfs in the Alpha Persei cluster

The UBVRI light curves of 7 late-type dwarfs amongst the fastest rotators of the Alpha Per cluster (vsini ≥140 km s-1) are presented. The shape of the light curves suggests that the photometric variations are most often dominated by a single group of cool spots located at intermediate or high latitude on the stellar surface. Assuming that starspots are good tracers of the stellar...

Variations of the solar granulation motions with height using the GOLF/SoHO experiment

Context. Below 1 mHz, the power spectrum of helioseismic velocity measurements is dominated by the spectrum of convective motions (granulation and supergranulation) and it is difficult to detect the low-order acoustic modes and gravity modes.Aims. We attempt to understand more clearly the behavior of solar granulation as a function of observing height in the solar atmosphere and...

Look-alike galaxies: - HI observations for look-alike galaxies of four calibrators

We present a programme aiming at applying the Tully-Fisher relation for galaxies with the same morphological type and the same inclination (look-alike galaxies or sosie galaxies) as calibrating galaxies. The advantage of sosie galaxies is discussed. In particular, it is shown that using sosies of bright calibrators will allow us to explore the universe deeper and more efficiently...

Optimised polarimeter configurations for measuring the Stokes parameters of the cosmic microwave background radiation

We present configurations of polarimeters which measure the three Stokes parameters I, Q and U of the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation with a nearly diagonal error matrix, independent of the global orientation of the polarimeters in the focal plane. These configurations also provide the smallest possible error box volume.

A photometric catalogue of galaxies in the cluster Abell 85

We present two catalogues of galaxies in the direction of the rich cluster ABCD 85. The first one includes 4232 galaxies located in a region from the cluster centre. It has been obtained from a list of more than 25000 galaxy candidates detected by scanning a Schmidt photographic plate taken in the BJ band. Positions are very accurate in this catalogue but magnitudes are not. This...

Micrometer measurements of double stars made at the Côte D'Azur and Calar Alto observatories

We report 312 micrometer measurements of 155 visual double stars made with the 50 cm refractor at the Côte D'Azur observatory (Nice, France) and with the 152 cm telescope at Calar Alto observatory (Almería, Spain).

Search and discovery tools for astronomical on-line resources and services

A growing number of astronomical resources and data or information services are made available through the Internet. However valuable information is frequently hidden in a deluge of non-pertinent or non up-to-date documents. At a first level, compilations of astronomical resources provide help for selecting relevant sites. Combining yellow-page services and meta-databases of...
