Hg tolerance and biouptake of an isolated pigmentation yeast Rhodotorula mucilaginosa

A pigmented yeast R1 with strong tolerance to Hg2+ was isolated. Phylogenetic identification based on the analysis of 26S rDNA and ITS revealed R1 is a Rhodotorula mucilaginosa species. R1 was able to grow in the presence of 80 mg/L Hg2+, but the lag phase was much prolonged compared to its growth in the absence of Hg2+. The maximum Hg2+ binding capacity of R1 was 69.9 mg/g, and ...

Celecoxib enhances anticancer effect of cisplatin and induces anoikis in osteosarcoma via PI3K/Akt pathway

Background COX-2, an inducible enzyme, is associated with inflammatory diseases and carcinogenesis. Overexpression of COX-2 occurs in many human malignancies, including osteosarcoma. COX-2 positivity is form 67 to 92% in osteosarcoma, and COX-2 expresses 141-fold more in cancer stem cell spheres than daughter adherent cells. In our study, we have reported that celecoxib, a ...

OsRLCK 57, OsRLCK107 and OsRLCK118 Positively Regulate Chitin- and PGN-Induced Immunity in Rice

Background The receptor-like cytoplasmic kinase, OsRLCK176 has been reported to participate in both chitin- and PGN-induced immunity in rice. Here, we further researched the function of the homologous proteins, OsRLCK57, OsRLCK107 and OsRLCK118, in chitin- and PGN immunity in rice. Findings Silencing of OsRLCK57,OsRLCK107 and OsRLCK118 suppressed chitin- and PGN-induced immunity ...

Cyclooxygeanse-2 promotes metastasis in osteosarcoma

Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an inducible form of the enzyme that catalyzes the first step in the synthesis of prostanoids, is associated with carcinogenesis, which is suspected to promote angiogenesis and tissue invasion of tumors and resistance to apoptosis. COX-2 is also involved in metastasis and poor prognosis of cancer. Osteosarcoma with COX-2 positivity is from 67 to 92 %. ...

Modulation of APOE and SORL1 genes on hippocampal functional connectivity in healthy young adults

Apolipoprotein E (APOE) and sortilin-related receptor (SORL1) genes act on the same metabolic pathway and have been associated with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) characterized by hippocampal impairment. Although the effects of APOE on hippocampal resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) have been reported, the main effects of SORL1 and SORL1 × APOE interactions on hippocampal rsFC ...

Cyclooxygenase-2 promotes tumor growth and suppresses tumor immunity

Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an inducible form of the enzyme that catalyzes the first step in the synthesis of prostanoids, is associated with inflammatory diseases and carcinogenesis, which is suspected to promote angiogenesis and tissue invasion of tumors and resistance to apoptosis. Meanwhile, COX-2 contributes to immune evasion and resistance to cancer immunotherapy, which plays a ...

Comparison study of silicon carbide coatings produced at different deposition conditions with use of high temperature nanoindentation

The elastic modulus and hardness of different silicon carbide (SiC) coatings in tristructural-isotropic (TRISO) fuel particles were measured by in situ high temperature nanoindentation up to 500 °C. Three samples fabricated by different research institutions were compared. Due to varied fabrication parameters the samples exhibited different grain sizes and one contained some ...

Analysis of APC mutation in human ameloblastoma and clinical significance

As a highly conserved signaling pathway, Wnt/β-catenin signal transduction pathway plays an important role in many processes. Either in the occurrence or development of tumor, activation of this pathway takes an important place. APC inhibits Wnt/β-catenin pathway to regulate cell proliferation and differentiation. This study aimed to investigate the function of cancer suppressor ...

Influence of Landscape Diversity and Composition on the Parasitism of Cotton Bollworm Eggs in Maize

We deployed >50,000 Helicoverpa armigera eggs in maize fields to assess the rate of parasitism by Trichogramma chilonis across 33 sites during a three-year span (2012–2014) in northern China. Subsequently, we used a partial least squares (PLS) regression approach to assess the relationship of landscape diversity with composition and parasitism potential. The parasitism rate of H. ...

Feasibility of focal cerebral ischemia and reperfusion surgery combined with chronic unpredictable mild stress to simulate the post-stroke depressive state in rats

Objective To evaluate the feasibility of focal cerebral ischemia and reperfusion (FCIR) surgery combined chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) to simulate the post-stroke depression (PSD) state in rats. Methods Sprague–Dawley male rats were divided randomly into five groups: the normal, sham, FCIR, CUMS, and FCIR + CUMS (F/C) groups. Rats in the FCIR and F/C groups underwent an ...

The Nurses’ Well-Being Index and Factors Influencing This Index among Nurses in Central China: A Cross-Sectional Study

Backgrounds/Objectives A discussion and analysis of factors that contribute to nurses’ happiness index can be useful in developing effective interventions to improve nurses’ enthusiasm, sense of honor and pride and to improve the efficiency and quality of medical services. Methods In this study, 206 registered nurses at the 2011 annual encounter for 12 Hanchuan hospitals completed ...

Interactions of genetic variants reveal inverse modulation patterns of dopamine system on brain gray matter volume and resting-state functional connectivity in healthy young adults

Different genotypic combinations of COMT and DRD2 can generate multiple subgroups with different levels of dopamine signaling. Its modulations on brain properties can be investigated by analyzing the combined gene effects of COMT and DRD2. However, the inherent association between modulation patterns of the dopamine system on structural and functional properties of the brain ...

Real-time HER2 status detected on circulating tumor cells predicts different outcomes of anti-HER2 therapy in histologically HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer patients

Background This study was initiated to investigate the difference in HER2 status between tumor tissue and circulating tumor cells (CTCs), as well as the predictive value of CTC HER2 status for predicting the outcomes of anti-HER2 therapy in histologically HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. Methods HER2 expression on CTCs was detected using a CellSearch system ...

A novel BCR-ABL1 fusion gene identified by next-generation sequencing in chronic myeloid leukemia

Background BCR-ABL1 fusion proteins contain constitutively active tyrosine kinases that are potential candidates for targeted therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as imatinib in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). However, uncharacterized BCR-ABL1 fusion genes can be missed by quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR)-based routine screening methods, causing adverse effect on drug ...

Norm inequalities for composition of the Dirac and Green’s operators

We first prove a norm inequality for the composition of the Dirac operator and Green’s operator. Then, we estimate for the Lipschitz and BMO norms of the composite operator in terms of the L s norm of a differential form.MSC: 26B10, 30C65, 31B10, 46E35.
