Sharp bounds for cyclic sums of the ratio of the exradius to the sides of a triangle

In this paper, sharp bounds for cyclic sums of the ratio of the exradius to the sides of a triangle are established depending on the circumradius and inradius of the triangle. The best possible parameters for the expressions of bounds are derived. Moreover, an alternative bound for the ratio of the exradius to the sides of triangle, expressed by trigonometric functions, is also ...

Geometric interpretation of Blundon’s inequality and Ciamberlini’s inequality

In this paper, we present a geometric interpretation of Blundon’s inequality and Ciamberlini’s inequality. Our results provide a useful method for proving the inequalities concerning sides, circumradius, and inradius of a triangle. As applications, some improved inequalities are established to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. MSC: 26D15, 26D05.

Parametrized inequality of Hermite-Hadamard type for functions whose third derivative absolute values are quasi-convex

In this paper we present some inequalities of Hermite-Hadamard type for functions whose third derivative absolute values are quasi-convex. Moreover, an application to special means of real numbers is also considered.

DNA stretching on the wall surfaces in curved microchannels with different radii

DNA molecule conformation dynamics and stretching were made on semi-circular surfaces with different radii (500 to 5,000 μm) in microchannels measuring 200 μm × 200 μm in cross section. Five different buffer solutions - 1× Tris-acetate-EDTA (TAE), 1× Tris-borate-EDTA (TBE), 1× Tris-EDTA (TE), 1× Tris-phosphate-EDTA (TPE), and 1× Tris-buffered saline (TBS) solutions - were used with ...

The cotton MYB108 forms a positive feedback regulation loop with CML11 and participates in the defense response against Verticillium dahliae infection

Accumulating evidence indicates that plant MYB transcription factors participate in defense against pathogen attack, but their regulatory targets and related signaling processes remain largely unknown. Here, we identified a defense-related MYB gene (GhMYB108) from upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) and characterized its functional mechanism. Expression of GhMYB108 in cotton plants ...

Schur-geometric convexity of the generalized Gini-Heronian means involving three parameters

In this paper, we give a unified generalization of the Gini means and Heronian means. The Schur-geometric convexity of the generalized Gini-Heronian means are investigated. Our result generalizes an earlier result given by Shi et al. (J. Inequal. Appl. 2008:879273, 2008). At the end of the paper, two new inequalities related to the generalized Gini-Heronian means are established to ...

Phylogenetic analysis of newly isolated grass carp reovirus

Grass carp reovirus (GCRV) is a causative agent of haemorrhagic disease in grass carp that drastically affects grass carp aquaculture. Here we report a novel GCRV isolate isolated from sick grass carp that induces obvious cytopathic effect in CIK cells and name it as GCRV096. A large number of GCRV 096 viral particles were found in the infected CIK cells by electron microscope. The ...

The deadly connection between endoplasmic reticulum, Ca2+, protein synthesis, and the endoplasmic reticulum stress response in malignant glioma cells

Background The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is involved in Ca2+ signaling and protein processing. Accumulation of unfolded proteins following ER Ca2+ depletion triggers the ER stress response (ERSR), which facilitates protein folding and removal of damaged proteins and can induce cell death. Unfolded proteins bind to chaperones, such as the glucose-regulated protein (GRP)78 and cause ...

Expression and cellular localization of cyclooxygenases and prostaglandin E synthases in the hemorrhagic brain

Background Although cyclooxygenases (COX) and prostaglandin E synthases (PGES) have been implicated in ischemic stroke injury, little is known about their role in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH)-induced brain damage. This study examines the expression and cellular localization of COX-1, COX-2, microsomal PGES-1 (mPGES-1), mPGES-2, and cytosolic PGES (cPGES) in mice that have ...

Aptasensors for rapid detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella typhimurium

Herein we reported the development of aptamer-based biosensors (aptasensors) based on label-free aptamers and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for detection of Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 and Salmonella typhimurium. Target bacteria binding aptamers are adsorbed on the surface of unmodified AuNPs to capture target bacteria, and the detection was accomplished by target ...

Schur Convexity of Generalized Heronian Means Involving Two Parameters

The Schur convexity and Schur-geometric convexity of generalized Heronian means involving two parameters are studied, the main result is then used to obtain several interesting and significantly inequalities for generalized Heronian means.
