‘Garland’ – an unusual object near NGC 3077

On the mass of the X-ray binary cluster A 399/A 401

The mean radial velocity and the dispersion of velocities for the cluster A399, component of the X-ray pair A399/A401, are determined from nine galaxies. The difference in radial velocities of the clusters is 1000 km s−1. The mass of the pair estimated in two ways lies within 3.3–9.9 × 1015 M⊙.

The stellar content and distance of UGC 4483

We present HST/WFPC2 observations of UGC 4483, an irregular galaxy in the M81/NGC 2403 complex. Stellar photometry was carried out with HSTphot, and is complete to V≃26.0 and I≃24.7. Galaxy flow in the Canes Venatici I cloud

We present an analysis of Hubble Space Telescope/WFPC2 images of eighteen galaxies in the Canes Venatici I cloud. We derive their distances from the luminosity of the tip of the red giant branch stars with a typical accuracy of ~12%. We present an analysis of Hubble Space Telescope/WFPC2 images of nine nearby galaxies in Sculptor. We inspected a sky region with declination range of [ 0°, -18°] based on the SERC EJ plate copies. As a result a list of 50 nearby dwarf galaxy candidates with angular diameters is presented. Most of the galaxies have low and very low surface brightness. More than 60% of the objects are detected for the first time.

Photometric distances to NGC 628 and its four companions

Based on photometry of the brightest blue stars we derived distance moduli for NGC 628 and its dwarf irregular companions: DDO 13, UGC 1171, UGC 1104, and K 10. The mean modulus of the group is estimated to be 29.46 mag with a formal (internal) error of 0.11. The total mass to luminosity ratio of 40 seems sufficient for NGC 628 to keep its companions in bound orbits.

We present a deep I-band image of the nearby dwarf irregular galaxy Cam A obtained with the Nordic Optical Telescope with 0.6-arcsec seeing (FWHM).
