A Research on Network Similarity Search Algorithm for Biological Networks

The biological network database presents exponential growth, how to find the target network accurately from the network database becomes the difficult problem. This paper proposes a new network similarity search algorithm, the similar network of Top k is calculated by two methods, the similar networks returned by the two algorithms are then filtered by overlap fractions, the...

Ghrelin Protects Human Lens Epithelial Cells against Oxidative Stress-Induced Damage

Oxidative stress has been recognized as an important mediator in the pathogenesis of age-related cataracts; using antioxidant supplements is one plausible strategy to protect the antioxidative defense system against oxidative stress. Ghrelin administration is expected to reduce ROS, preventing the onset of different diseases. The role of ghrelin, if any, in protecting against...

Bounded perturbation resilience of the viscosity algorithm

In this article, we investigate the bounded perturbation resilience of the viscosity algorithm and propose the superiorized version of the viscosity algorithm. The convergence of the proposed algorithm is analyzed for a nonexpansive mapping. A modified viscosity algorithm and its convergence is presented.

SLC52A3 expression is activated by NF-κB p65/Rel-B and serves as a prognostic biomarker in esophageal cancer

The human riboflavin transporter-3 (encoded by SLC52A3) plays a prominent role in riboflavin absorption. Interestingly, abnormal expression patterns of SLC52A3 in multiple types of human cancers have been recently noted. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying its dysregulation remain unclear. In this study, we find that SLC52A3 has two transcript variants that differ in the...

Evaporation kinetics of surfactant solution droplets on rice (Oryza sativa) leaves

The dynamics of evaporating sessile droplets on hydrophilic or hydrophobic surfaces is widely studied, and many models for these processes have been developed based on experimental evidence. However, few research has been explored on the evaporation of sessile droplets of surfactant or pesticide solutions on target crop leaves. Thus, in this paper the impact of surfactant...

Genome-Wide Analysis, Classification, Evolution, and Expression Analysis of the Cytochrome P450 93 Family in Land Plants

Cytochrome P450 93 family (CYP93) belonging to the cytochrome P450 superfamily plays important roles in diverse plant processes. However, no previous studies have investigated the evolution and expression of the members of this family. In this study, we performed comprehensive genome-wide analysis to identify CYP93 genes in 60 green plants. In all, 214 CYP93 proteins were...

Novel genetic locus at MHC region for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in Chinese populations

Background Our previous genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified three independent single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in human major histocompatibility complex (MHC) region showing association with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). In this study, we increased GWAS sample size on MHC region and performed validation in an independent ESCC cases and normal...

Accelerated Mann and CQ algorithms for finding a fixed point of a nonexpansive mapping

The purpose of this paper is to present accelerations of the Mann and CQ algorithms. We first apply the Picard algorithm to the smooth convex minimization problem and point out that the Picard algorithm is the steepest descent method for solving the minimization problem. Next, we provide the accelerated Picard algorithm by using the ideas of conjugate gradient methods that...

A new hybrid algorithm for a nonexpansive mapping

In the paper, we introduce a new hybrid algorithm which is not based on the modification to weak convergence algorithms. The strong convergence theorem of the proposed algorithm is presented. Finally, the numerical experiments suggest that the new algorithm could be faster than Nakajo and Takahashi’s algorithm in J. Math. Anal. Appl. 279:372-379, 2003.

Shared susceptibility loci at 2q33 region for lung and esophageal cancers in high-incidence areas of esophageal cancer in northern China

Background Cancers from lung and esophagus are the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in China and share many similarities in terms of histological type, risk factors and genetic variants. Recent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in Chinese esophageal cancer patients have demonstrated six high-risk candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Thus, the present...

Mining Fuzzy Association Rules in the Framework of AFS Theory

In this paper, firstly we study the representations and fuzzy logic operations for the fuzzy concepts in real data systems. Secondly, we propose a new fuzzy association rule mining algorithm in the framework of AFS (Axiomatic Fuzzy Sets) theory. Compared with the current algorithms, the advantage of proposed algorithm has two advantages. One is that the membership functions of...

A new hybrid algorithm and its numerical realization for two nonexpansive mappings

In the paper, first, we introduce a new hybrid projection algorithm and present its strong convergence theorem. Next, we analyze different hybrid algorithms in computing and conclude that our proposed algorithm has an advantage. Finally, the numerical experiments validate the efficiency and advantages of the new algorithm.

Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease in Hunan Province, China, 2009-2014: Epidemiology and Death Risk Factors

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is an arising public health problem in Asia, including China. Epidemiological data is necessary to enable judicious public health responses and interventions. We analyzed the epidemiological and laboratory data of 759,301 HFMD cases reported to the Hunan Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention from 1 January 2009 to 31 December...

Holocranohistochemistry enables the visualization of α-synuclein expression in the murine olfactory system and discovery of its systemic anti-microbial effects

Braak and Del Tredici have proposed that typical Parkinson disease (PD) has its origins in the olfactory bulb and gastrointestinal tract. However, the role of the olfactory system has insufficiently been explored in the pathogeneses of PD and Alzheimer disease (AD) in laboratory models. Here, we demonstrate applications of a new method to process mouse heads for microscopy by...

Quantifying the Impact of Land Cover Composition on Intra-Urban Air Temperature Variations at a Mid-Latitude City

The effects of land cover on urban-rural and intra-urban temperature differences have been extensively documented. However, few studies have quantitatively related air temperature to land cover composition at a local scale which may be useful to guide landscape planning and design. In this study, the quantitative relationships between air temperature and land cover composition at...

Rate of convergence of Mann, Ishikawa and Noor iterations for continuous functions on an arbitrary interval

In this paper, we relax the control condition of convergence of SP-iteration presented by Phuengrattana and Suantai (J. Comput. Appl. Math. 235:3006-3014, 2011). We compare the rate of convergence of Mann, Ishikawa and Noor iterations from another point of view and come to a different conclusion. Finally, we provide a numerical example for Ishikawa and Noor iterations, which...
