Approximation Algorithms for Maximum Independent Set of Pseudo-Disks

We present approximation algorithms for maximum independent set of pseudo-disks in the plane, both in the weighted and unweighted cases. For the unweighted case, we prove that a local-search algorithm yields a PTAS.
