We present and discuss the observations of 14 Ae and A type shell stars in the visual, the Hα region and the near infrared. At least 57% of these stars are spectrum variables. The Paschen lines are formed in a region which has the characterics of giant stars. We analyse CCD spectroscopic material obtained at the Haute Provence Observatory between 1990 and 1993, covering the wavelength region 3800-11000 Å. 320 emission lines were measured and identified. We report in this paper recent observations, mainly in the region from 0.7 to 1.03 μm, of two peculiar emission-line objects, HD 50138 and 45677, and discuss the similarities and dissimilarities in their spectra.
