Solid-State Heating Synthesis of Poly (3,4-Ethylenedioxythiophene)/Gold/Graphene Composite and Its Application for Amperometric Determination of Nitrite and Iodate

A ternary composite of poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/gold/graphene (PEDOT/Au/GO) for promising electrochemical sensor was synthesized by solid-state heating method. The interaction between the PEDOT, Au, and GO explored for detection of nitrite and iodate. It was found that the PEDOT/Au/GO composite had shale-like morphology with a uniform distribution of gold nanoparticles. ...

Circular RNAs: emerging cancer biomarkers and targets

CircRNAs are a class of RNA molecules that structurally form closed loops. CircRNAs are abundant in eukaryotic transcripts and show certain levels of tissue and cell specificity. CircRNAs have been suggested to regulate gene expression at transcriptional, post-transcriptional, and translational levels. An increasing number of studies have shown that circRNAs play important roles in ...

Selective medial soft tissue release combined with tibial reduction osteotomy in total knee arthroplasty

To obtain the correct coronal alignment and balancing in flexion and extension, we established a selective medial release technique and investigated the effectiveness and safety of the technique during primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Four hundred sixty-six primary TKAs with varus deformity were prospectively evaluated between June 2013 and June 2015. A knee joint position ...

Diet-derived microRNAs: unicorn or silver bullet?

that otherwise regulation-relevant levels could be reached. Chen-Yu Zhang responds The mobility of small RNA molecules (siRNAs and miRNAs) from one species to another is a newly discovered mechanism for ... experimental functional studies of exogenous miRNA and the most significant challenges to addressing them successfully? Chen-Yu Zhang answers There are two types of “exogenous miRNAs,” including absorbed

Effects of Cu addition on microstructure and mechanical properties of as-cast Mg-6Zn magnesium alloy

The application of Mg-Zn binary alloys is restricted due to their developed dendritic microstructure and poor mechanical properties. In this study, an alloying method was used to improve the mechanical properties of Mg-Zn alloy. The Mg-6Zn magnesium alloys microalloyed with varying Cu content (0, 0.8, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5wt.%) were fabricated by permanent mould casting, and the effects ...

Multi-phase simultaneous segmentation of tumor in lung 4D-CT data with context information

Lung 4D computed tomography (4D-CT) plays an important role in high-precision radiotherapy because it characterizes respiratory motion, which is crucial for accurate target definition. However, the manual segmentation of a lung tumor is a heavy workload for doctors because of the large number of lung 4D-CT data slices. Meanwhile, tumor segmentation is still a notoriously ...

A small-molecule/cytokine combination enhances hematopoietic stem cell proliferation via inhibition of cell differentiation

Background Accumulated evidence supports the potent stimulating effects of multiple small molecules on the expansion of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) which are important for the therapy of various hematological disorders. Here, we report a novel, optimized formula, named the SC cocktail, which contains a combination of three such small molecules and four cytokines. Methods ...

Large-scale ex vivo generation of human neutrophils from cord blood CD34+ cells

Conventional high-dose chemotherapy frequently leads to severe neutropenia, during which patients experience a high risk of infection. Although support care with donor’s neutrophils is possible this choice is largely hampered by the limited availability of matched donors. To overcome this problem, we explored a large-scale ex vivo production of neutrophils from hematopoietic stem ...

How genetic variation is affected by geographic environments and ploidy level in Erianthus arundinaceus?

Erianthus arundinaceus is not only a candidate plant for sugarcane breeding programs, but also a potential bioenergy grass. Genetic variation that is affected by geographic environments and ploidy level is very important for the utilization of Erianthus arundinaceus. In this study, effects of geographic environments and ploidy level on genetic variation were studied through ...

The toxic effects and possible mechanisms of Brusatol on mouse oocytes

Brusatol is a natural quassinoid that shows a potential therapeutic use in cancer models by the inhibition of Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and is capable of inducing a variety of biological effects. The effects of Brusatol on oocyte meiosis has not been addressed. In this study, we investigated the impact of Brusatol treatment on mouse oocyte maturation and ...

In situ synthesis of silver/chemically reduced graphene nanocomposite and its use for low temperature conductive paste

In this work, we succeeded in the synthesis of Ag/chemically reduced graphene (Ag/G) nanocomposite by a facile in situ one-pot solvothermal route. X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectra and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results revealed the formation of Ag and the reduction of graphite oxide to graphene during the one-pot process. Scanning ...

Moderate injury in motor-sensory cortex causes behavioral deficits accompanied by electrophysiological changes in mice adulthood

Moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI) in children often happen when there’s a sudden blow to the frontal bone, end with long unconscious which can last for hours and progressive cognitive deficits. However, with regard to the influences of moderate TBI during children adulthood, injury-induced alterations of locomotive ability, long-term memory performance, and hippocampal ...

DOT1L inhibitor improves early development of porcine somatic cell nuclear transfer embryos

Incomplete epigenetic reprogramming of the genome of donor cells causes poor early and full-term developmental efficiency of somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) embryos. Previous research indicate that inhibition of the histone H3 K79 methyltransferase DOT1L, using a selective pharmacological inhibitor EPZ004777 (EPZ), significantly improved reprogramming efficiency during the ...
