Each poem addresses a different aspect of the alligator, such as the alligator?s smile, his body type, the mother-baby alligator relationship, the alligator?s skin type, and more. Each page has a photograph to complement the poem along with a fun fact about alligators in a little green box. This is a great book to learn about alligators. The pictures draw the reader in, while the fun facts teach. The pictures take up just over half of a two-page spread. The poems are engaging enough to entertain older children who would understand them easily. Younger children may need to have some of the meanings of the words in the poems explained. The reader can learn about the alligator through the fun and fanciful poems and also by reading hard facts. The facts are detailed enough to be thorough, but not so detailed that a child gets bored before finishing reading. The book seems to be aimed at kids, helping them to learn while being entertained.
