Impaired function of tendon-derived stem cells in experimental diabetes mellitus rat tendons: implications for cellular mechanism of diabetic tendon disorder

BackgroundPatients with diabetes mellitus (DM) often suffered with many musculoskeletal disorders, such as tendon rupture and tendinopathy. However, the understanding of the pathogenesis of these alternations is limited. This study was designed to investigate the role of tendon-derived stem cells (TDSCs) in histopathological alterations of DM tendons.MethodsForty-two SD rats were...

A note on convergence of weighted sums of random variables

Under uniform integrability condition, some Weak Laws of large numbers are established for weighted sums of random variables generalizing results of Rohatgi, Pruitt and Khintchine. Some Strong Laws of Large Numbers are proved for weighted sums of pairwise independent random variables generalizing results of Jamison, Orey and Pruitt and Etemadi.

Interaction between CD177 and platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 downregulates membrane-bound proteinase-3 (PR3) expression on neutrophils and attenuates neutrophil activation induced by PR3-ANCA

A recent study found that CD177 served as a receptor of membrane-bound proteinase-3 (mPR3) in a subset of neutrophils. Furthermore, CD177 has been identified as a high-affinity heterophilic binding partner for the endothelial cell platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1). The current study aimed to investigate whether the interaction between PECAM-1 and CD177 could...

Cylindricity Error Evaluation Based on an Improved Harmony Search Algorithm

The cylindricity error is one of the basic form errors in mechanical parts, which greatly influences the assembly accuracy and service life of relevant parts. For the minimum zone method (MZM) in international standards, there is no specific formula to calculate the cylindricity error. Therefore, the evaluation methods of the cylindricity error under the MZM have been widely...

Is exclusion of leukocytes from platelet-rich plasma (PRP) a better choice for early intervertebral disc regeneration?

BackgroundPlatelet-rich plasma (PRP) is becoming a promising strategy to treat early intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) in clinics. Pure PRP without leukocytes (P-PRP) may decrease the catabolic and inflammatory changes in the early degenerated intervertebral discs. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of P-PRP on nucleus pulposus-derived stem cells (NPSCs...

Taking the Sector Seriously: Data, Developments, and Drivers of Intrasectoral Earnings Inequality

The widespread increase in earnings inequality within postindustrial countries has received a lot of attention in both the public debate and the academic literature. Remarkably, the developments in earnings inequality have mainly been studied at the country level, whereas there is substantial variation across sectors within countries. This study explores the developments and the...
