A smoothing Newton-type method for second-order cone programming problems based on a new smoothing Fischer-Burmeister function

A new smoothing function of the well known Fischer-Burmeister function is given. Based on this new function, a smoothing Newton-type method is proposed for solving second-order cone programming. At each iteration, the proposed algorithm solves only one system of linear equations and performs only one line search. This algorithm can start from an arbitrary point and it is Q...

An efficient Newton-type method with fifth-order convergence for solving nonlinear equations

In this paper, we present an efficient Newton-like method with fifth-order convergence for nonlinear equations. The algorithm is free from second derivative and it requires four evaluations of the given function and its first derivative at each iteration. As a consequence, its efficiency index is equal to 4√5 which is better than that of Newton's method √2. Several examples...

A Systematic Review about the Efficacy and Safety of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook.f. Preparations Used for the Management of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Tripterygium wilfordii Hook.f. (TWHF) is a traditional Chinese herb long used for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) treatment, in modern times, often in the form of various Tripterygium wilfordii Hook.f. preparations (TWPs). This systematic review and meta-analysis focuses on analyzing the clinical efficacy and safety of TWPs in the treatment of RA. Databases were searched to collect the...

MethBank 3.0: a database of DNA methylomes across a variety of species

MethBank (http://bigd.big.ac.cn/methbank) is a database that integrates high-quality DNA methylomes across a variety of species and provides an interactive browser for visualization of methylation data. Here, we present an updated implementation of MethBank (version 3.0) by incorporating more DNA methylomes from multiple species and equipping with more enhanced functionalities...

Lenalidomide regulates CNS autoimmunity by promoting M2 macrophages polarization

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and debilitating neurological disorder of the central nervous system (CNS), characterized by infiltration of leukocytes into CNS and subsequent demyelination. Emerging evidences have revealed the beneficial roles of M2 macrophages in ameliorating experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a model for MS. Here, we identify that...

miR-376c promotes carcinogenesis and serves as a plasma marker for gastric carcinoma

Gastric carcinoma is highly prevalent throughout the world. Understanding the pathogenesis of this disease will benefit diagnosis and resolution. Studies show that miRNAs are involved in the tumorigenesis of gastric carcinoma. An initial screening followed by subsequent validation identified that miR-376c is up-regulated in gastric carcinoma tissue and the plasma of patients with...

Meta-analyses of comparative efficacy of antidepressant medications on peripheral BDNF concentration in patients with depression

Background Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is one of the most important regulatory proteins in the pathophysiology of major depressive disorder (MDD). Increasing numbers of studies have reported the relationship between serum/plasma BDNF and antidepressants (ADs). However, the potential effects of several classes of antidepressants on BDNF concentrations are not well...

Design and Evaluation of a Novel Felbinac Transdermal Patch: Combining Ion-Pair and Chemical Enhancer Strategy

The aim of this study was to design a novel felbinac (FEL) patch with significantly higher (P < 0.05) skin permeation amount than the commercial product SELTOUCH® using ion-pair and chemical enhancer strategy, overcoming the disadvantage of the large application area of SELTOUCH®. Six complexes of FEL with organic amines diethylamine (DEA), triethylamine (TEA), N-(2′-hydroxy...

Structure and properties of indium-doped ZnO films prepared by RF magnetron sputtering under different pressures

High conductive and transparent In-doped ZnO thin films were deposited on glass substrates by radio-frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering at 250 °C. Argon gas was used as the sputtering gas, and its pressure varies from 0.1 to 4.0 Pa. The influences of deposition pressure on the structural, electrical and optical properties of the films were investigated by means of X-ray...

Lamellar Liquid Crystal Improves the Skin Retention of 3-O-Ethyl-Ascorbic Acid and Potassium 4-Methoxysalicylate In Vitro and In Vivo for Topical Preparation

The study aimed at increasing the skin retention of 3-O-ethyl-ascorbic acid (EA) and potassium 4-methoxysalicylate (4-MSK) via topical administration for effective skin-whitening. To achieve this goal, EA and 4-MSK were formulated into lamellar liquid crystalline (LLC) cream, and response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize the formulation. Polarized light...

MiR-129-2 functions as a tumor suppressor in glioma cells by targeting HMGB1 and is down-regulated by DNA methylation

MicroRNA (miRNA) dysregulation is causally related to cancer development and progression, and recent reports have revealed that DNA methylation constitutes an important mechanism for miRNA deregulation in cancer. MiR-129-2 has been reported to be down-regulated and functions as a tumor suppressor in a few human cancers. However, the involvement of miR-129-2 in the pathology of...

Serotonin-1A receptor alterations in depression: a meta-analysis of molecular imaging studies

Background Postmortem studies of people who have successfully committed suicide and people with depression have implicated the serotonin-1A (5-HT 1A ) receptor system in the pathophysiology of depression. Several molecular imaging studies have investigated alterations in 5-HT 1A receptors in patients with depression using positron emission tomography and have reported conflicting...

Investigations on the Tobacco Necrosis Virus D p60 Replicase Protein

Tobacco Necrosis Virus D (TNV-D), in the genus Betanecrovirus (family Tombusviridae), possesses a single-stranded, positive-sense RNA genome containing six open reading frames (ORFs). Two 5'-proximal ORFs (1 and 2) encode overlapping polypeptides of 22 and 82 kDa (p22 and p82, respectively) which are both required for replication. The p22 auxiliary protein contains no replication...

The C825T Polymorphism of the G-Protein β3 Gene as a Risk Factor for Depression: A Meta-Analysis

Background TheG-protein β3 gene (GNβ3) has been implicated in psychiatric illness through its effects upon intracellular transduction of several neurotransmitter receptors. Multiple studies have investigated the relationship of the C825T polymorphism of the GNβ3 gene (GNβ3 C825T) to depression and antidepressant response. However, the relationship between GNβ3 C825T and...
