Phylogeny and taxonomy of three new Ctenomyces (Arthrodermataceae, Onygenales) species from China

Twelve Ctenomyces (Arthrodermataceae, Onygenales) strains were obtained and identified during a survey of keratinophilic fungi in soils from China. We used molecular identification combined with morphological evidence to delimit species, circumscribing five species in the genus. Three new species are herein described: C. albus sp. nov., C. obovatus sp. nov. and C. peltricolor sp...

The Predictive Value of Infant-Specific Preoperative Pulmonary Function Tests in Postoperative Pulmonary Complications in Infants with Congenital Heart Diseases

Background and Objective. To investigate the relationship between infant-specific preoperative pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) in infants with congenital heart diseases (CHDs). Methods. Patients of 1-3 years of age who received surgical treatment for CHDs from January 1st, 2009, to December 31st, 2017, were retrieved. Records of...

A taxonomic study of Muscidifurax Girault & Sanders from China (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea, Pteromalidae)

Five species of Muscidifurax Girault & Sanders (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) are studied from mainland China, of which three new species, M. similadanacus Xiao & Zhou, sp. n., M. sinesensilla Xiao & Zhou, sp. n., M. neoraptorellus Xiao & Zhou, sp. n., and one newly recorded species, M. adanacus Doganlar, are reported. All species have been reared from pupae of Musca domestica...

Commercially Available Natural Benzyl Esters and Their Synthetic Analogs Exhibit Different Toxicities against Insect Pests

Benzyl methyl ester, also known as methyl benzoate (MB), is a volatile organic compound that exists naturally as a floral fragrance in many plants. Our behavioral bioassays show that MB and some of its naturally occurring and synthetic analogs kill insects at different life stages. Compared to commercial pesticides containing pyriproxyfen and acetamiprid, MB and some analogs are...

Identification of attractive blend for spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii, from apple juice

Drosophila suzukii, commonly known as the spotted wing drosophila (SWD), is an exotic fruit fly from Southeast Asia that was introduced to the temperate regions of North America and Europe in 2008. It attacks a wide variety of fruits and has become a devastating pest of soft-skinned fruit crops. Due to the rapid spread of SWD across the newly invaded continents, fresh fruit...

The modeling and simulation of collision protection system between the driver of non-motor vehicle and car door

Collision between the driver of non-motor vehicle and car door often happens when the car driver or the passenger in the parking car opens the door suddenly ignoring a non-motor vehicle passing by. The collision protection system is proposed by installing an airbag in the car door. When the collision accident between the driver of non-motor vehicle and the car is unavoidable, the...

Solvent-free Synthesis of Nitriles from Aldehydes Catalyzed by KF/Al2O3, Montmorillonite KSF and K10

Multistep and one-pot conversion of aldehydes to nitriles were carried out conveniently with out solvent using KF/Al2O3, montmorillonite KSF and K10 as catalyst, under microwave irradiation. The reactions are completed within 6-8 min to give satisfactory yields. KF/Al2O3 was more effective catalyst both in multistep procedure and one-pot reaction.

Triaxial Wetting Test on Rockfill Materials under Stress Combination Conditions of Spherical Stress p and Deviatoric Stress q

A GCTS medium-sized triaxial apparatus is used to conduct a single-line method wetting test on three kinds of rockfill materials of different mother rocks such as mixture of sandstone and slate, and dolomite and granite, and the test stress conditions is the combination of spherical stress p and deviatoric stress q. The test results show that (1) for wetting shear strain, the...

Breaking the barriers: advances in acoustic functional materials

Acoustics is a classical field of study that has witnessed tremendous developments over the past 25 years. Driven by the novel acoustic effects underpinned by phononic crystals with periodic modulation of elastic building blocks in wavelength scale and acoustic metamaterials with localized resonant units in subwavelength scale, researchers in diverse disciplines of physics...

Comparing the UK EQ-5D-3L and English EQ-5D-5L Value Sets

BackgroundThree EQ-5D value sets (EQ-5D-3L, crosswalk, and EQ-5D-5L) are now available for cost-utility analysis in the UK and/or England. The value sets’ characteristics differ, and it is important to assess the implications of these differences.ObjectiveThe aim of this paper is to compare the three value sets.MethodsWe carried out analysis comparing the predicted values from...

A New Mathematical Method for Solving Cuttings Transport Problem of Horizontal Wells: Ant Colony Algorithm

Cuttings transport problem has long been recognized as one of the key difficulties in drilling horizontal wells, and the models in cuttings transport research are usually formulated with highly nonlinear equations set. When using Newton methods to solve real engineering problems with nonlinear equations set, the problems of result dependence on initial values, Jacobian matrix...
