Radiation Protection Dosimetry

Radiation Protection Dosimetry covers all aspects of personal and environmental dosimetry and monitoring, for both ionising and non-ionising radiations. This includes biological aspects, physical concepts, biophysical dosimetry, external and internal personal dosimetry and monitoring, environmental and workplace monitoring, accident dosimetry, and dosimetry related to the protection of patients. Particular emphasis is placed on papers covering the fundamentals of dosimetry; units, radiation quantities and conversion factors. Papers covering archaeological dating are included only if the fundamental measurement method or technique, such as thermoluminescence, has direct application to personal dosimetry measurements. Papers covering the dosimetric aspects of radon or other naturally occurring radioactive materials and low level radiation are included. Animal experiments and ecological sample measurements are not included unless there is a significant relevant content reason.

The survey contained questions relating to radiation safety...

Clinical diagnostic reference levels in neuroradiology based on clinical indication

This study focuses on patient radiation exposure in interventional neuroradiology (INR) procedures, a field that has advanced significantly since its inception in the 1980s. INR employs minimally invasive techniques to treat complex cerebrovascular diseases in the head, neck, and spine. The study establishes diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for three clinical indications (CIs...

Are solid state nuclear track detectors truly integrated devices?—experimental evidence in radon measurements

Passive diffusion radon monitoring devices were exposed to a range of radon concentrations and their variations. The experimental results, backed up by the statistical analysis, showed that the radon concentration had virtually no effect on the final integrated exposure results, with the exception for the very low concentration. Therefore, it was proven that such devices are...

Evaluating radiofrequency electromagnetic field exposure in confined spaces: a systematic review of recent studies and future directions

This study reviews recent research on Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Field (RF-EMF) exposure in confined environments, focusing on methodologies and parameters. Studies typically evaluate RF-EMF exposure using an electric field and specific absorption rate but fail to consider temperature rise in the tissues in confined environments. The study highlights the investigation of RF...

The analysis done using gamma ray spectrometer, which was put into action for spectral data...

Assessment of organ doses, peak skin doses and effective doses in patients undergoing anterior cervical discectomy and fusion utilising VirtualDose-IR software

In this study, the effect of patient- and procedure-related parameters on organ doses (ODs), peak skin dose (PSD) and effective dose (E) during anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) was evaluated. Patient- and procedure-related parameters, as well as fluoroscopy time, kerma-area product (KAP), cumulative air-kerma (Kair) and incident Kair, were analysed for 50 ACDF...

X-ray scatter in projection radiography

Projection radiography is the most common radiological modality, and radiation safety of it concerns both radiation workers and the public. We measured and generated a series of scattered radiation maps for projection radiography and estimated effective doses of the supporting person during exposure. Measured adult patient protocols included chest posterior–anterior, chest...

Comparison of the conversion method with gravel unfolding to obtain dose values from photon spectra

Modern gamma-ray spectrometers based on solid-state scintillators are increasingly being used in fields where previously dosemeters were applied. From the spectra, precise fluence and dose information can be derived. The most important methods of doing this are investigated in detail; the conversion method, which is based on weighing functions; and unfolding, here using the...

Analysis of radioactivity in commercially available products aiming to improve health and wellness

There are products available on the online market that are claim to contain unique ‘energies’ that can improve health and wellness by eliminating toxins and pains and energising food and drinking water. We investigated these products by alpha and gamma spectrometry, and the analysis showed that they contained a few to hundreds of kilobecquerels per kilogram of naturally occurring...
