ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
As TVC Executive Board, we are honored to offer the 42nd volume of The
Vermont Connection Journal. The spirit of The Vermont Connection and the
community that comes with it continues to support our publication of each TVC
journal, and we are especially heartened by the support we received during the
COVID-19 pandemic and national crises.
We extend gratitude to the current HESA students and alumnx who participated
in the production and editing processes of the journal. Without their constructive
feedback and affirmation of the journal submissions, the 42nd Journal would have
not been possible. We also want to thank librarians Daniel DeSanto and Donna
O’Malley for their support in streamlining and continuously improving the journal
production process. A special thank you goes to Dr. Tiffanie Spencer and Molly
Williams (HESA ‘20) for offering their gifts in the form of a compelling foreword
and reflection for the journal.
We would like to express our greatest appreciation to our advisors, Cristina Vega
(HESA ‘15) and Dr. Jason C. Garvey, who offered tremendous support throughout
the year. We are also deeply grateful for our HESA faculty — Dr. Jason C. Garvey,
Dr. Tracy Arámbula Ballysingh, Dr. Deborah Hunter, and Dr. Tiffanie Spencer.
TVC has greatly benefited from the support and encouragement of our staff
advisors and faculty.
Thank you to Dolan (HESA ‘13), Kayon Hall, Larry Long, Jilliene Rodriguez
(HESA ‘12), Joe Russell, and Annie Stevens (HESA ‘86) for their guidance and
mentorship through teaching various courses for both cohorts this academic year.
We are also grateful for Dr. Pamela Gardner (HESA ‘85) who has continued the
tradition of coordinating professional development for graduating members of
the HESA program. We owe our deepest gratitude to Chris Caswell, the HESA
Office Program Support Generalist, for ensuring that everything related to HESA
runs smoothly behind the scenes. We are especially grateful to Kunie Renaud and
Chris Caswell for providing financial oversight and recommendations.

We are very grateful for Jilliene Rodriguez who has continued to extensively
support HESA through mentorship, support, and coordinating Visit Days and
serving as the practicum instructor this year. We appreciate Joel Ontiveros (HESA
‘21) and Tatiana Havens (HESA ‘22) who have also provided tremendous support
in all things related to HESA recruitment, including the HESA Booklet, Google
Hangouts, and Visit Days. We are also appreciative of the many practitioners across
the University of Vermont campus and beyond who provide guidance, support, and
mentorship as supervisors in our practica, assistantship, and/or professional roles.
During Phone-A-Thon this year, TVC raised more than $10,000. The funds will
enable relevant social, educational, and professional development opportunities for
current and future HESA students as well as support the following year’s journal.
Therefore, we are extremely grateful to every alumnx, friend, and supporter of the
HESA program who made a contribution to this year’s drive. We would also like to
thank the UVM Foundation, especially Kevin Morgenstein Fuerst, Lori McPeters,
and Kathryn Meader (UVM ‘15) for guiding and supporting our fundraising efforts
throughout Phone-A-Thon and beyond.
We would like to particularly thank the Membership & Community Development
(MCD) Committee, Kirsty Nicole Bocado (HESA ‘21), Max Cordes Galbraith
(HESA ‘22), and Suzanna Stockey (HESA ‘21) led by JAKE Small (HESA ‘21) for
devoting their energy and love into building community amongst current HESA
students. We additionally thank TVC 41 Executive Board for sharing their wisdom
with us and for laying a foundation for a successful year.
Last but not least, we want to extend our utmost gratitude to you for being part
of The Vermont Connection. As an Executive Board, we look forward to the
future of the HESA program and its contributions to the world, and we are deeply
appreciative of the collective work put into creating The Vermont Connection.
