This editorial provides an update of the status of Journal of
Real-Time Image Processing (JRTIP). First, I am pleased
to report that JRTIP has become a top 25% rated Springer
Nature Journal in terms of authors satisfaction in the
authors survey conducted by Springer Nature. In response
to the inquiries "The editorial advice and comments
throughout the process helped to improve the paper" and
"The editors managed the peer review process well," JRTIP
received a score of 96% satisfaction. This reflects a very
positive experience the authors have had publishing their
research work in the journal. I would like to express my
gratitude to the associate editors for their excellent editorial
contributions. It is also worth pointing out that the number
of JRTIP papers downloads topped 200,000 in 2023, a
substantial increase over 2022. This is an indication of the
growing stature of JRTIP in the category of journals in
imaging science and photographic technology.
The journal has now fully transitioned into the new
reviewing system called Springer Nature’s Article
Processing Platform (SNAPP). Since the last editorial,
several new features have been added to SNAPP that have
improved the reviewing process of manuscripts. These
features include enhancements in managing reviewers,
notifications improvements, and an improved reviewer
dashboard.
A Springer sponsored editorial board lunch meeting was
recently held during the 2024 SPIE Conference on RealTime image Processing and Deep Learning in Maryland,
USA. In this meeting, steps that can be taken to improve
the SNAPP reviewing system as well as ways to raise the
visibility of JRTIP were discussed and several suggestions
were made to the Springer management regarding these
issues. A picture of those in attendance at the meeting
appears in Fig. 1.
As a final item of this editorial, I would like to mention
the changes that have occurred in the editorial board
since the last editorial. The Associate Editors Dr. Ahmed
Bouridane, Dr. Emre Celebi, Dr. Sergio Goma, and Dr. Luis
Salgado have retired/stepped down from the editorial board.
I would like to thank them for their service and contributions
to JRTIP during their tenure as associate editors. Meanwhile,
Dr. Chandan Gope, Dr. Reza Pourreza, Dr. Jianfeng Ren, and
Dr. Haoran Wei have joined JRTIP as associated editors. I
wish to welcome them to the editorial board.
As always, I would like to express my appreciation
to the reviewers, the associate editors, and the Springer
management for contributing to JRTIP in one way or
another.
