Editors’ Introduction to v45(1)

Contemporary Jewry (2025) 45:17 https://doi.org/10.1007/s12397-025-09639-0 Editors’ Introduction to v45(1) Harriet Hartman1 · Adina Bankier‑Karp2 © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V. 2025 You’ll notice something different about this first issue of Volume 45: There is no detailed introduction, No familiar distribution of articles and book reviews, and no neatly organized sections. Articles and book reviews may appear interspersed, rather than in separate sections. Why? That’s because our journal has just transitioned to a new publishing model: Continuous Article Publishing (CAP). What does this mean for you the author? What does this mean for you the reader? It means that as soon as your article or book review has been accepted by an editor and completes the production process—copyright, copyediting, and proofing— it will be published in the next quarterly issue (March , June , Sept , December). No waiting for other articles in a special issue to be processed. No delays due to pending proofs. Articles will be published online as soon as they are ready and then appear in the next print issue in the order in which they complete production. This transition will accelerate the publication timeline, ensuring timely dissemination of research—an essential factor in enhancing our journal’s impact metrics, increasing its prestige, and encouraging more scholars in our field to publish with us. One trade-off of this system is that, given the shorter production timeline, we may no longer have space to introduce the articles in each issue. Instead, we encourage you to rely on abstracts to determine which pieces align with your interests. Special issues will now be curated as thematic collections available online rather than single bundled issues. While the CAP system offers many advantages, it also presents some challenges. We would love to hear your thoughts. Please share your feedback by emailing and with the subject line “COJE—CAP system.” As always, we hope you enjoy the read!
