even 18 m o n t h s ago there was adequate data so that this drug could have been
and should have been addressed in more depth. Likewise, miconazole was
superficially treated by multiple authors. I believe that the controversy over its
toxicity and efficacy warranted considerably m o r e attention. I think the b o o k
would have greatly benefited from a single person drawing together all views or
treatment, just as was d o n e for immune defects. F o r example, it is possible for the
reader to interpret the regimen presented for m u c o r m y c o s i s as being the only way
to give amphotericin B for this mycosis, versus another specific regimen as being
the only correct a p p r o a c h to Candida sepsis.
Nevertheless, with the exceptions mentioned above, the b o o k should be a
helpful addition to the medical library particularly for the oncologist looking for
guidance a b o u t these vexing problems in i m m u n e c o m p r o m i s e d patients.
